    Five Questions With… Brad Almy

Nobody quite knows a city like its local advertising salespeople. As an Account Executive for Creative Loafing, it’s Brad Almy’s job to know the “what’s what” and “who’s who” of Atlanta’s retail, restaurant, and small business community. Let’s put him to the “Five Questions With…” test:
    Q. Last meal in Atlanta. Where are you going and what are you eating?
    A. I am going to answer this in “death row inmate” style…I would start out with an order of Strizzata from Rocky Mountain Pizza on the corner of Hemphill and Tenth street, followed by chicken wings (swimming) from J.R. Crickets, Chicken Tenders and Fries from Junior’s Grill on Georgia Tech’s Campus, and a Pitcher of Sweetwater 420. This would be followed by a bowl of Tom Kha Gai from Spoon, and a Country Fried Burger from Flip, with a side of the Vodka Batter Onion Rings. Main Course would be Jerk Chicken from Eats, one Slice of Pepperoni and Sausage Pizza from Fellini’s (Sicilian style), all washed down with a Chocolate Milkshake from the Varsity for dessert. All this for less then you pay to get the Tasting menu at most places in town!

J.R. Crickets: Not winning any awards for logo design, but the wings are truly phenomenal.

    Q. Best Atlanta celebrity sighting?
    A. I met Jim Clancy (superstar CNN War Corespondent) outside of the Georgia Tech/LSU Game! Sherlita Patton (Big Boi from OutKast’s Wife) at a party at Straits. I also saw Ted Turner walking down the street near Sidebar downtown the other day.

For those that like to refer to Atlanta as “the Hollywood of the South”, I present to you Jim Clancy, local celebrity.

    Q. A day to show off Atlanta to the cast of The Golden Girls. Where are you taking them?
    A. The High Museum, a Hawks Game, and The Clermont.

Dorothy Zbornak and the gals: Huge Al Horford fans.

    Q. Favorite neighborhood?
    A. I have to represent Home Park! It is definitely grungy, but the juxtaposition of expatriates from Georgia Tech’s Campus, Orthodox Muslims, Neo Hippies, and Musicians make it my favorite. House parties where bands like The Black Lips, Sound Tribe Sector 9, and Gringo Starr got their start, The long lasting institute of higher drinking, Rocky Mountain Pizza, and Kool Korners (RIP) are all fond memories!

    Q. Hidden Atlanta gem that everyone needs to experience/see/do at least once?

    A. GO TO THE PORTER! If there is a bar in heaven, this is what it would be like. No TVs, great food, no nonsense service, and dozens of beers that you can not get anywhere else.

An excellent Golden Girls fan site, here.
