    Energy Efficient Tax Holiday

While not as glamorous as, say, a real holiday, there’s nothing quite as fiscally responsible as a tax holiday! This weekend, Georgians buying energy and water efficient products can take advantage of- wait for it- you guessed it- tax exemptions from both state and local sales taxes!

    The Rules
Exemptions apply to sales occurring October 1 – 4, 2009.

Exemptions are limited to products with a purchase price of $1,500 or less that have been designated as meeting requirements of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Energy “Energy Star” programs.

It’s a pretty sweet deal, and unlike “cash for clunkers”, you don’t have to turn in your old stuff to take advantage of the new.

Before you check out the list of exempted products, I urge you to celebrate this moment- this glorious tax-errific occurrence- by clicking on the video below. You’ll instantly recognize it as Lindsey Buckingham’s pop classic “Holiday Road”. It is my unofficial tax holiday anthem.

    Tax Exempt Energy/Water Efficient Items

    - air conditioners
    - fluorescent light bulbs
    - dishwashers
    - refrigerators
    - dehumidifiers
    - ceiling fans
    - clothes washers
    - windows (excluding skylights)
    - programmable thermostats
    - doors
    - bathroom sink faucets or aerators
    - high-efficiency toilets and flushing urinals
