A Plynyl Floor Grows In Lake Claire
I just googled the phrase “hardwood vs. tile in the kitchen” (life in the fast lane!), and I was somewhat surprised to see that I wasn’t the only one interested in the topic. The little search engine that could returned 739,000 results! Clearly, it’s a hot-button issue, right up there with health care reform and whether or not Diane Sawyer made the right move by leaving Good Morning America for World News Tonight. (although not nearly as popular as the phrase “carpet vs. hardwood”, which yields an astronomical 7,580,000 search results. Note to self: blog about this in the future). With so few flooring options and so much confusion, you’d think that there’s no room for another option. Don’t be so sure, dear reader…
A couple of weeks ago I previewed a house in Lake Claire, one of my favorite intown neighborhoods. The house is fantastic (click here to check it out), but what struck me almost immediately was the flooring in the kitchen. The uniquely weaved floor was both textured and soft- nothing like anything that I had seen before. It reminded me of a Chilewich place mat, like the one below: 
Turns out… it practically is a Chilewich place mat. Chilewich makes a product called plynyl, and it makes for a stylish yet durable flooring alternative to hardwoods, tile and carpet. Unlike leather’s bastard-cousin pleather, plynyl looks great, and is a fantastically stylish complement to just about anything it’s paired with.
