Literate Atlanta
Proving once again that there is no top-10 list outside our grasp (and that there is no limit to the number of top-10 lists that exist), Atlanta was recently ranked as the 5th most literate city in the country. The Most Literate City study, published by Central Connecticut State, ranked cities with populations of at least 250,000 according to six key metrics: library resources, newspaper circulation, number of bookstores, periodical publishing resources, educational attainment, and Internet resources. Not sure if it was the massive $275 million library bond issue that Atlanta voters approved last year that swayed the pollsters, but clearly, someone is impressed with our collective appreciation for the written word!
Regional rival Charlotte ranked 27th on the list. Not trying to start anything… but if you’re currently considering relocation, this might be something you want to consider. Charlotte’s a wonderful city, but they just don’t read so good.
