Atlanta Loves You, Visitors
Sometimes I forget how massive Atlanta’s convention and tourism business is. An afternoon braving the lines at the Georgia Aquarium or The World of Coke is usually enough to clue me in as to just how much visitors help our local economy, but it’s still difficult to understand the scope of their contributions. I was just browsing the Atlanta Business Chronicle’s list of the top conventions and events in Atlanta (compiled by the Atlanta Convention & Visitors Bureau) and I was pretty stunned at what showed up on the list. A few of the more interesting entrants- along with estimated attendance, and economic impact- below:
CHEERSPORT Limited 2010 (70,000 attendees, $34,870,000 economic impact)
International Woodworking Fair 2010 (53,000 attendees, $61,270,000 economic impact)
DRAGON*CON (30,000 attendees, $14,940,000 economic impact)
FIRST Robotics Championship (20,000 attendees, $23,120,000 economic impact)
