    Decatur Old House Fair

Bob Vila has not officially endorsed the Decatur Old House Fair, but if he knew about it, he probably would.

As an owner of an older home, I know what it’s like to fall in and out of love of on a daily basis.  I know that I’ll never find what I’ve got in new construction, yet I can’t help but look at my more modernly constructed neighbors with a tinge of envy.  In those moments of new home envy, or old home  malaise, we old home folks need an occasional shot in the arm.  This week, we’ll get it.

Whether you own, want to own, or just love and appreciate old homes, this Saturday’s Decatur Old House Fairis the place to see and be seen.  Hosted by the City of Decatur, the Dekalb History Center and the Decatur Preservation Alliance, the Decatur Old House Fairis designed to promote the restoration, rehabilitation and celebration of old homes.  It’s a chance to learn about restoring original windows, improving older home energy efficiency,  researching old-house history, qualifying for tax incentives for certified rehabilitation… and a litany of other old home hotpoints.  It’s definitely not for everybody, but for those that dig the old houses, it’s a must-attend.
