Charlie Loudermilk Park
When a city names a park after you and you’re still alive (and not a narcissistic politician), then you’re probably kind of a big deal. Charlie Loudermilk is one such Atlantan.
The founder of the Aaron’s, Inc. empire, Loudermilk turned a $500 loan in 1955 in to a colossal empire. Rather than purchase a professional sports franchise or build a mega-yacht, Mr. Loudermilk decided to put his discretionary income in to the former Roxy Theater, which is reopening in June as the Buckhead Theater. With less and less money earmarked for the arts, its nice to see such a prominent philanthropist open up his wallet for the cause.
With all that said, naming the park that sits across the street from the renovated theater seems like the least that the city can do for a guy. Charlie Loudermilk Park is the little triangle-shaped park that sits at the heart of Buckhead, bordered by Roswell and Peachtree Road.
