Putting To Rest The Shame Of Whatizit

I’ve never quite understood why each Olympics need its own mascot.   For starters, the Olympic rings is one of the most iconic logos in the world.   Yet every four years we get to meet another new, forgettable Olympic mascot.  Most are pretty bland, but some- like Atlanta’s unfortunate “Whatizit”, are just shamefully bad:

Its been nearly fourteen years since the Atlanta games closed, and Whatizit (also known fondly as “Izzy” by some) is still widely regarded as one of the worst mascots of the modern Olympiad.  That is until now.

London has just released photos of their two Olympic mascots, Wenlock and Mandeville.

    Somewhere, Izzy is smiling.
