    Atlanta’s No Cruising Law

I recently noticed this sign, just a few houses down from my home:

I’m assuming that the purpose of this sign is to deter any Freaknik-like activity in an otherwise quiet neighborhood.  But still, it’s a pretty strange law to have on the books.  If I decide to make a run to CVS, it’s possible that I’m going to pass the sign twice.  Does this mean that I’m in jeopardy of being fined $500?  What if I’m driving clients around the neighborhood looking at real estate?  Do I have to worry about being considered a cruiser?

Learn everything that you ever wanted to know about Atlanta City Code 150-296, aka the anti-crusing code.

You just don’t understand the slow roll. You ain’t a playa…in O4W on Kennesaw, on Simpson, and along Metropolitan Parkway near the Pink Pony South, this law takes on a fresh new flava

I spent a couple of years living in Gainesville, GA in the early nineties, and there was a huge cruising scene. Lots of outsized spoilers, neon and bass rolling along a circuit near the mall on weekend nights. Many of these cars had tags from three and four counties away (including Atlanta counties), and I always figured the scene was in Gainesville because it had been run out of some other town. I mean, it’s not like Gainesville is a first-choice destination for anything, really.
