Greg Scott, Inman Park Dine Out
On Wednesday, July 28, the Inman Park Dine Out is set to take place. Glasses will be filled, food will be devoured, and funds will be raised for the Inman Park Security Patrol. In one night, a community will show that it is very possible to be indulgent and generous at the same time. In the middle of the madness is Greg Scott, Inman Park resident, noted Atlanta photographer, and chief instigator of this year’s affair…
Q. Why do you love living in Inman Park?
A. The main thing that attracted me to Inman Park was the physical beauty of the old houses and trees in the neighborhood, and its location intown. After moving here, I really found that the best part of Inman Park living is that the community truly has the spirit of a small town. When Inman Parkers face adversity, whether it’s the government trying to build a highway through the neighborhood, or parking issues, or crime, the folks in the neighborhood are not content to just sit back and let someone else solve the problem for them – they take action.
Q. Why are neighborhood security patrols important?
A. In these days of city budget cuts, we, as intown residents, cannot count on the APD at it’s current staffing levels to provide the sort of community policing that helps prevent crimes from occurring. Neighborhood funded security patrols help keep neighborhoods safe by serving as visible deterrents to crime and providing an added level of security that politicians can’t seem to afford for with our tax dollars. There’s also the added bonus of increasing the public’s interactions with our police officers on a positive level.

A. I would start at Wisteria for some pimento cheese deviled eggs, next door to N. Highland Pub for fried pickles, the fried mushrooms at Fritti (notice a theme here?) the Balsamic and caramelized onion risotto at Sotto Sotto, chef’s choice at Park’s Edge because I trust Chef Jorge, guacamole at Pure, the fried oysters rockefeller at Parish, the canape of the day at Sauced, chicken liver fettuccine at Shaun’s and then a nightcap at The Albert, Highland Cigar or The Porter (or all three!) – I’m now full.
Q. How has Inman Park changed since you first moved in to the neighborhood?
A. We have been here since 2002 and the most dramatic change has been the addition of so many new neighbors with the development of Inman Park Village. We’ve also seen a lot more families move in from other areas. Overall, I think we’ve seen Inman Park really make the change from transitional intown neighborhood to a full-fledged community.
Q. What is the Inman Park Dine Out, and why should everyone reading this make it a point to take part in it?
A. The Inman Park Dine Out is a one-night event in which participating restaurants, all within the patrol area of the IPP, make their contribution to the funding of the Patrol by donating 20% of their dinner sales. Everyone should take part in it because the higher the restaurants’ sales, the bigger their contribution, which translates to more patrol hours (currently, the patrol is funded primarily by residents). The Dine Out doesn’t just benefit Inman Park residents, it benefits all who enjoy coming to our neighborhood to take advantage of everything we have to offer by keeping them safe when they are here.
