When she’s not out rocking Atlanta as one of the city’s most prolific real estate agents, Sara Lee Parker is hanging out at Philips Arena, where she is known to many as the Atlanta Dreams’ #1 fan. This Tuesday night, Sara Lee brings together her passions for real estate, the Dream and community service as Sanctuary Real Estate and Open Hand host “”A Night of Dreaming With The Atlanta Dream“”. If you buy a ticket through this link (using the offer code Open Hand), a portion of your ticket to the Dream’s home tilt (against bitter rival the Washington Mystics) goes to Open Hand. Good times for a good cause, people. How do you beat it?
Q. For those Atlantans who have yet to attend an Atlanta Dream game, what are they missing out on?
A. As a season ticket holder, I have been to almost every home game since the Dream tipped-off in Atlanta and I cannot express enough to people how much fun we have!! Every time I bring a “newbie” to one of the games they leave with a big smile on their face (even if we lose, which this season, isn’t too much–YAY!!). What I love most is the dedication and energy from our players – every one of the eleven ladies on that team gives 110% down to the last second of the game! Dream fans are right there with them, the louder we cheer the harder it is for the Dream to lose and they love it! In just their third season, our Dream is leading the Eastern Conference and looking toward the playoffs! On top of the excitement on the court, there is a constant stream of entertainment at Philips Arena – music, dancing, contests and giveaways, our mascot (Star) roaming the stands, parachuting dogs (you’ll have to attend to find out), eating, drinking, and so much more! It truly is fun for all ages and if you go once, I guarantee, you will come back!
Q. Favorite Atlanta neighborhood(s)?
A. There are so many great, Intown neighborhoods all within a hop, skip and jump from each other so it is hard to pin-point just one! Of course I love Inman Park where our Sanctuary office is located. We have seen such a boom there over the last several years with great restaurants and retail popping up all around. It’s also very centrally located so in just a matter of minutes you can be in Candler Park, Little 5 Points, Grant Park, East Atlanta Village, Midtown/Downtown, Virginia Highland and even downtown Decatur, all of which are my stomping grounds so… is that an answer?? Let’s just say, I get around! : )
Q. Real estate trends worth keeping an eye on?
A. At this moment… amazing, historically low mortgage rates plus historically low prices, makes for a great time to buy! Real Estate will always be a good investment.
Q. The Washington Mystics have one night to enjoy Atlanta’s dining scene. Where are you sending them, and what are you recommending they order?
A. Kind of like my neighborhood answer, Atlanta has SO many amazing restaurants this is a tough question! But, since you are making me answer with one, I’ll go with TWO: Urban Licks for these reasons: it is consistently voted as one of Atlanta’s favorites so it’s a hot spot to check out the Atlanta scene – an eclectic, diverse crowd of all ages; there is live music, a patio with skyline views and it is centrally located, right off Freedom Parkway & Ralph McGill, easy access for the Mystics coming from Philips Arena! Of course the food is good, too! They advertise “Fiery American Cooking” and that is done right in front of you in a live rotating rotisserie which adds to the funky atmosphere! My favorites are the salmon chips to start and the pork shoulder as my entree with NY baked cheddar macaroni and pork jus – yum! For dessert, anything chocolate… and, did I mention their wine selection?
Q. What is Open Hand, and why is it awesome?
A. Speaking of food… Open Hand’s mission is all about prevention and health management through Comprehensive Nutrition Care. Nutrition sensitive diseases such as obesity, diabetes, or heart disease touch all of us. Through home-delivered meals and nutrition education, the great staff and volunteers at Open Hand are empowering others to put first the priority of preventing disease instead of reacting to it. If you believe that staying healthy has a lot to do with diet and exercise, you are right! I’ll tie this back into the female athletes who work and play in the WNBA. WNBA Cares is deeply committed to promoting health and fitness. Players and coaches volunteer in their communities to mentor and inspire young girls through programs related to health fitness, nutrition and self-esteem. Hmmm… what a great fit! Maybe next season we’ll see our Dream players volunteering in the Open Hand kitchen, which I highly recommend as another fun and rewarding activity!
