An instant classic since its inception in 2005, Pinkberry’s foray in to the Atlanta market has frozen yogurt aficionados swooning. Based in Los Angeles, the Pinkberry Atlanta flag is being waved by David Beall, a food and hospitality vet that’s on a campaign to convert the ice cream crowd to froyo, one cup at a time. A few words on roadtrips, neighborhoods and naturally, the frozen stuff…
Q. How many cups of Pinkberry have you consumed since you first considered the franchising opportunity?
My affection/addiction to large cups of Pinkberry is actually the main reason why I got into this business!
I’m a numbers guy, so I did the initial math in my head for what my addiction could cost me long term, and since Pinkberry is packed with yogurt goodness, I realized I could sustain this addiction indefinitely. I figure I’ve personally consumed about 400+ cups of Pinkberry over the past year – and it’s usually our large (13 oz.) portions.
Q. Favorite Atlanta road trips?
I really enjoy the road trip to Athens to see the Georgia bulldogs play and hang out in the town.
Q. What are the biggest changes that you’ve seen in the food service industry over the course of your career?
The straightforward concepts with the most simplicity are the ones that are excelling. Those that have a distinct offering, and genuine commitment to product quality, such as Chipotle, Five Guys, In-N-Out Burger and Pinkberry – are doing well.
Q. Favorite neighborhoods?
I have a few favorites – I like Kennesaw, Woodstock, and the area around Virginia Avenue equally as I have managed restaurants in those areas. Now, I’m also partial to Cobb (Akers Mill) thanks to Pinkberry and because my in-laws live there. If I’m going to eat out, I love Virginia-Highland and Midtown – both have lots of character.
Q. 24 hours riding MARTA, 12 hours driving The Perimeter, or 6 hours walking up and down Peachtree?
Definitely 6 hours walking up and down Peachtree – this would not be that bad, at least you get exercise and can see some real estate. The others sound torturous.
BONUS QUESTION: What is Pinkberry, and why is it awesome?
Pinkberry is swirly goodness you can taste and feel; it’s a clean, fresh and craveable taste…I promise, you will be hooked (I am!) But Pinkberry is not just a product. What I love about it is that it’s a total experience: a cool environment, outstanding customer service, and a product that’s the perfect balance of tart and sweet. Pinkberry is a full sensory experience that you look forward to all day long.
