As we become increasingly wired, it’s amazing that we still see images like the one below in front of homes for sale:

The flyer box, the home of pertinent property information.  There’s something so… 1981 about a marketing delivery mechanism that’s essentially a box filled with a stack of paper.  If people can pay for coffee with their smart phones, certainly there’s a better way that Realtors can be providing information, right?

The short answer is yes.  And no.

While some consumers can’t get their brains around an analog, paper-filled world, there are others who are decidedly more “”old school”” in their approach.  You know who I’m talking about.  Not only do they not have a smart phone, but they’ve probably never texted… and they might even still be using an AOL email address.

So while it might be tempting to remove that sad flyer box from the front lawn, smart real estate marketers need to consider the entire universe of potential home buyers.  Enter the QR Code:

Going forward, all of my marketing flyers will include QR Codes, for those home buyers that would prefer to learn about my wonderful listings on their iPhone rather than on a piece of paper.   While I’d personally prefer to go 100% paperless, I believe that this solution allows me to reach all potential buyers.  And who knows, maybe one day my flyer boxes will look like this:
